2018 NCAA National Champions
Under the leadership of head coach, Magnus Nilerud, Bridgeport had established itself as an ECC and East Region power over the past decade-plus. Heading into the 2018 campaign, the Purple Knights had made the NCAA Championship nine times over 11 seasons and also claimed seven ECC Regular Season Championships and four ECC Tournament Championships. In addition, UB had won two East Region Championships, made an appearance in the Division II Final Four in 2015, and spent the majority of the 2011 season ranked No. 1 in the country during an unbeaten season. The Purple Knights' National Championship in 2018 was the first for the ECC since 2013 and the 24th in conference history. Bridgeport was the first ECC National Champion in the sport of women's soccer and just the second team national title in conference history outside the sports of men's and women's lacrosse.
